Preventative Medical Care in Lancaster, CA

Preventive medicine is a broad term because it focuses on the health of individuals and communities. The idea is to help maintain health, to prevent illness and disease, to encourage and pave the way for people of all ages to live healthy and productive lives. One of the groups that needs preventative medicine most is adolescents because of their need to be present in school to learn and grow.

Without proper care, many children miss over two weeks of school each and every year! Here at Family First Medical Practice of Lancaster, CA, we believe in keeping kids in school by maintaining their health year-round. The epidemic of unhealthy adolescents

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports findings from a number of credible sources regarding adolescent health, asserting that 5.3% of adolescents (12-17 years old) missed 11 or more days of school annually due to illness or injury. That’s nearly two weeks of school lost. This can occur from weak immune systems or just a general lack of overall health, which in many cases is tied back to obesity.

We all know how much of a problem obesity is in the United States, but maybe you don’t know the extent of it. In 2014, 20.6% of adolescents aged 12-19 were reported as obese. The CDC also revealed data from 2015-2016 that showed 1 in 5 school age children (kids and adolescents combined) in the United States were obese.

If your child is overweight, we have the measuring capabilities and the technology to know exactly what’s going on and help address it to improve overall health.
